How long swelling lasts
Chin filler is a quick injectable treatment, and downtime is usually mild. Most people notice some swelling and occasionally light bruising at the chin for the first few days. The chin is a relatively low-movement area, so it tends to settle predictably rather than staying puffy for long. Numbing cream is used during the treatment, and the injection itself typically takes around ten to twenty minutes.
In the first day or two, minor firmness or a slightly over-full look is common and usually just swelling rather than the filler itself. This eases as fluid disperses. If you have an event coming up, it is sensible to leave a buffer of a week or so, since that allows early swelling to resolve and the true shape to show.
What to avoid right after
For the first day, it helps to avoid pressing, massaging, or resting your chin on your hand, so the freshly placed filler is not disturbed. Many practitioners suggest holding off on strenuous exercise, saunas, and very hot environments for a short period, as heat and raised blood flow can add to swelling and bruising. Alcohol can also make bruising more likely in the first day or so.
Keep the area clean and avoid facial treatments directly over the chin until it has settled. If you take blood-thinning medication, you may bruise a little more — this is reviewed at consultation beforehand. Cold compresses used gently can help with early swelling. Most people carry on with normal daily life straight away, simply being a little careful around the treated area.
When the shape settles, and when to check in
The final chin shape typically emerges once early swelling has fully resolved, usually within a couple of weeks, though the bulk of the change is visible much sooner. Because hyaluronic acid integrates with the surrounding tissue, the result also softens slightly from its day-one appearance into a more natural finish. Chin filler generally lasts around six to eighteen months given how little the area moves.
Contact the clinic if you notice anything beyond ordinary swelling — increasing pain, spreading redness, a change in skin colour, or a lump that does not settle — as these warrant a review. A follow-up appointment is also the right moment to fine-tune the result if you want more or less projection once the chin has settled. Any adjustment is priced according to your individual plan, with the current rate displayed on our clinic price board.
