The basic idea
The solution goes directly into a layer of fat through a fine needle. Its active ingredients disrupt the membranes of the fat cells they reach, and the body's normal clearance processes remove the released contents over the following weeks. The outcome is a smaller fat pocket in that one spot.
Formulations differ between products, so the exact ingredients depend on which injection is chosen. At Barog Clinic the options include a regular contour injection, a stronger power contour injection, and a fat-destroying injection offered in 2cc and 4cc sizes. The doctor explains what each one contains at consultation.
What it is used for, and where it falls short
Its most common use is the submental area, the soft fullness under the jaw that often persists despite diet and exercise. It suits a defined, pinchable pad and works as a local contouring treatment. It has no real effect on body weight and does not firm the skin; when laxity is the main cause of the fullness, the clinic points patients toward lifting.
A treatment takes about 10 to 20 minutes. Anaesthesia is usually unnecessary, or a numbing cream is applied. Because each round removes only part of the pad, the chin is normally treated a few times, commonly two to four, at intervals of around a month.
Is the result permanent?
Fat cells that have been broken down do not grow back in the treated area, and that is why the reduction tends to hold. A double chin can still return with significant weight gain, since the fat cells left behind are able to enlarge. How long the result lasts varies from one person to the next.
Long-lasting is not the same as risk-free. Swelling, bruising, a burning sensation, temporary numbness and a firm, lumpy feel are the usual effects. Nerve injury, skin necrosis and trouble swallowing are rare but reported, and depend on the product and the technique used.
